Origin Stories: The Director/Producer Partnership
Kathryn and I met while in the B.F.A film program at the University of Central Florida. Our friendship began when she needed help finding a sitter for her infant son who she, crazily enough, gave birth to over the break between fall and spring semester of our first year (she literally did not miss a single class because she’s some sort of superhero warrior woman).
What was clear from the very beginning of our friendship was how much we balanced one another out. While our core values are almost identical, I am very methodical and business-minded, while she is more of a fervent free-thinker. With so many projects being mounted monthly in our program, it became clear that our contrasting skills sets made us a strong producer/director pair. Throughout our last year and a half, we worked with one another on four large film-related projects. These experiences allowed us to strengthen our production workflow, and by graduation we were already in development on With Her Own Hands.
Together, Kathryn and I have faced the wild rollercoaster ride that is film school, a cross-country move, house-hunting, job-hunting, living and working together, another cross-country move, and the creation of several creative passion projects.
With Her Own Hands is perhaps our greatest joint venture yet, and we couldn’t be happier to share our journey with you!
Below are some of our favorite memories from college. We consider it an honor to have collaborated with so many amazing people, and we are eternally grateful that we have such an awesome network of filmmakers who we now consider friends.
